Fantastic Berlin label, run by a couple of unnamed and unarmed operatives from Berlin’s infamous Hardwax camp. The label has kept to the most stringent principles of the underground, and has given us the very first releases from artists like Arovane, Pole, Dynamo and Log, as well as some unique material from Robert Henke’s Monolake project. All with minimal fuss.

Brought to the mainstream with the UK debut from Iceland’s Sigur Ros, Fat Cat have relentlessly stuck to their decidedly experimental guns and continue to bring to light trailblazing works from a slew of international artists, alongside future-pop hits from the likes of Iceland’s Mum. Hugely influential – check the site for lots of info on the label, and the industry in which they work.
One of the finest labels around at the moment. Bringing the sounds of Finland out into the big wide world and making it a better place.

Ninja Tune? Nuff said. Home to more artists than we could possibly mention here, as well as host to it’s excellent sublabels – Big Dada and N-Tone. They might claim not to be hip but damn they are doing something to get those Hoxtonites in a tizzy. With Fantomas and Melt Banana contributing tracks, who can blame them?
Be afraid! Operating outta Stockport’s Edgeley community, V/VM first came to attention with their ‘0161’ compilation collaboration with fellow Mancs – Skam. Since then the pigs have managed to wreek havoc throughout the world, inadvertantly kickstarting the whole Bootlegging scene, offending anyone who’s anyone and frying enough ears to necessitate their anonymous status. Will not rest until they make it to number 1 in the pop charts – stranger things have very definitely happened!
Hands-down the most innovative record label/collective in the world right now. No arguing, right?
Classic alternative rawk label, home to the very fuzzy Flying Saucer Attack and the very ragtime Jack Rose.

BONNIE 'PRINCE' BILLY
An undeniably odd fellow, and we love him anyway. Great folk music is always hard to find, but he has the voice, the touch and the look.
Birmingham is great isn't it? Without it we wouldn't have the Balti, Black Sabbath and of course, the very lovely Broadcast. The midlanders answer to Stereolab!
Our most hotly-tipped new artist on the scene today...If it's Detroit lushness, crunchy electro or Chicago House that you're after, no one produces like this kid does!! Check him out.
OK so they have bums on their covers... but apart from that the music is superb, and endorsed by Thurston Moore dontcha know. Well there you have it.
Sometimes music can just get a little bit too kooky, but Cocorosie get the balance right and stay safely in the realm of 'very good music'. We like them a lot.
The home listening kings of Norway, we know they have all the oil; but they make damned fine music too. Spooky sounds ahoy.
An artist who can truly be said to be leading the 'New Weird America' scene. He's got a beard and sometimes wears a dress (ok... it's probably a sarong, so sue me...) and sounds a bit like Marc Bolan, but we love him all the same!
Finland is a cold place, and dark, but for some reason they are throwing the most intense and original music we've heard for ages. How's about that then? Mr. Es is actually the boss of Fonal records too... and his music is totally fabuloucious.

One of our favourite bands, and the only people we know to blend an 80s pop sound with glitchy beats and pull it off convincingly.
Kaman Leung must be one of the best kept secrets in new music today. Producing the kind of dense, twisted and always deep instrumental Hip Hop you will shrink to, you need to get to grips with this fella as soon as you can.
Valerie from Puna and her band of merry men are always welcome in these offices, and what a lovely website to go with the lovely music.

Robert Henke’s official website, check in here often enough and you just might be able to get your hands on some exclusive MP3’s!
Our favourite artist of 2002, Mexico's Fernando Corona is a legend round these parts. Flash site with Discography, links, news and live news.
Finnish and funky; Paavoharju rock our world pure and simple. Totally original and inruiging, they are a band to keep a firm eye on!
Gorgeous and undeniably cute music from Japan, it's so lovely you want to smother it with a teacloth just in case it escapes. Ok, maybe not but it's yummy all the same.
These guys do more to support independant, new music than pretty much anyone else in the big league. Pay your respects in return and check in on this excellent, big site.
Errrm only one of the finest and most influential rock bands in recent history (probably every). Teenage Riot, Catholic Block, Death Valley 69 - the list could go on forever. They rule, and we want them as our musical slaves.
To create an album for each of the 50 States of America is a pretty huge project to embark on, but Mr. Stevens' music is just so damned lovely that we really want him to complete this task. 50 Sufjan Stevens albums sounds like a bloody good night in to us!
SUNBURNED HAND OF THE MAN
Psych, improv, drone-rock, free blah blah, call it what you like - it's ace and we're addicted. This site is especially useful as you can keep track of the Sunburned releases, always a bonus when there are only 3 copies of an album available!
