MOUSE ON MARS - Radical Connector, Sonig

Andi Toma and Jan St Werners's 8th album is their finest long player since 1997's 'Autoditacker'. At nine tracks long 'Radical Connector' is also their most song friendly album ever. It brings together the vocal talent of Niobe and Dodo Nkishi to flesh out MOM's rough and ready, grimey and gorgeous post indie electronic sound. In fact this album is pure pop, mixed with alien r'n'b stomp beamed down from planet Sonig. The tracks featuring Niobe are wonderful, sounding very much like current style Bjork but with a pure pop focus rather than complex inner gazing. Dodo Nkishi's falsetto vocal is sometimes given a subtle electronic tinker which brings to mind the finest Nobukazu Takemura moments from his last few albums. Examples ~ try the gorgeous 'Send Me Shivers' and try to guess it's Mouse On Mars - come down with the end of the world amazing hip hop glitchtronics of 'The End' and then dig deeper with the almost El-P bruising beat mangling of 'All The Old Powers'. Elsewhere is an assortment of mind melting electrowave shock dance blasts that were first realised on the 'Niun Niggung' album. Finally check out the wonderful 8 min plus track 'Evoke An Object', otherworldly harmonic broken garage with a spellbinding vocal from Niobe. Very very good indeed, highly recommended.
