For a piece of British electronic music history - look no further. Peacefrog need to be congratulated for finally delivering a definitive breakdown of the work of a true visionary, Steve Pickton, aka Stasis. Stasis re-configured British Techno and adapted the Detroit weltenschaung into something distinctly British, together with early B12 / Likemind cohorts Neuron, The Black Dog in their many incarnations and Kirk Digeorgio’s phenomenal A.R.T stable. The breathtaking ‘From The Point Of No Return’ was Pickton’s first outing on the superb but short lived B12 label, an amazing, seminal techno cut that was conceived and realised to perfection. The opening drum pattern and string line immerse the listener in bubbling analog warmth, ethereal strings and a percussive huddle that converges and builds up making for something totally unforgetable. Also included are the Phenomyna releases taken from the A.R.T. 5.1 and 5.2 12”s, ‘Into The Other World’ and ‘Got The Urge’ - two tracks that to these ears stand out as classic techno blueprints: the sounds, subtlety, and atmosphere retaining an otherworldly texture that cant quite be fathomed in this digital age. The second part of this inspired compilation brings together a slew of previously unreleased material which make this, undeniably, a totally essential purchase. Limited edition triple-vinyl pressing - 20 tracks wide. Classic.
