With all the rave-core, 4/4, jump-up, 2-step and lord knows what other kinds of dub step filling the sub clubs right now, it's nice to see someone finally getting back to the kind of grimacing ruffage that made jungle so good back in the day. We all remember the rasping menace of the Virus and Renegade Hardware label releases, and clearly so does King Cannibal who utilizes the classic grubby bass sound you'd expect to hear on a Usual Suspects 12" rather than a Benga CD. The pick here is the clattering, sample-filled 'Call Me Mr Cold Blooded' which truly hits the rusty nail on the head, then pulls it out sadistically before filling the wound with ammonia. Lovely stuff, I'm off to watch Hostel 2 - you with me?
