VARIOUS / DAVE CLARKE - I Love Techno (Mixed by Dave Clarke), Music Man

Dave Clarke teams up with the I Love Techno event for this impressive mix CD, featuring unreleased works from Kevin Saunderson (remixed by Joris Voorn), The Advent, DJ 3000, Rob Gibson and T. Linder, as well as a selection of tracks you might already know and love. Christian Smith & John Selway's 'Coming Storm' makes for an apt opening piece, rumbling into action with thunderous sound effects and jabbering beats only to launch into Raudive's insistent 'Magnetic', which raises the heat a little, leading up to Peter Horrevorts' forceful 'Evolver'. The heaviness continues to escalate into Public Energy's distorted acid exercise 'Three O Three'. A clear highligh comes from the British Murder Boys remix of Substance & Vainqueur's 'Emerge' which sounds just massive in this context, with impeccably crisp production and floods of reverberating bass drum. The tone sees to lean further and further towards the harder end of the techno spectrum, finishing up with the noisy compressions of Rob Gibson's 'Hutch' and Velvet Underwear's thoroughly skronked 'The Same'.
