I know there are those of you out there literally rabid for a new electronica record that actually sounds exciting, fresh and more importantly, rough around the edges. Well correct me if I'm wrong but I think I've found that record - at least this is a pure electronica album (in the vein of classic Autechre, early Funkstorung or L'usine) but then at the same time it's also 100% R&B. I'm not kidding here, this sounds like Usher reworked by Arovane (circa Atol Scrap). I'm pretty blown away actually, to make this work once is fluke, but to keep this style up for 45 minutes? That's pretty damn special, and I'm almost dying to throw these tunes down on a dancefloor somewhere nearby. You should know what to expect; there's that Timbaland-style swing, those infectious 8-bit synth stabs, but the beats are pure IDM; fat and cleverly processed to make them sound like your washing machine is malfunctioning. To be honest the first time I heard 'Pusine' I really wasn't sure what to make of it, I wasn't sure whether this was just a novelty record, but the more I listen to it the more I am seduced by its slinky cognac-laced funk - machine funk, that is. This is the record I get the feeling a lot of those guys back in the hey-day were attempting to make but they just didn't allow themselves to - it's just so unashamedly POP, and all the better for it. If you were a little disappointed too by Timbaland's recent solo joint (as I was) then you'd really better look a bit closer at this record, you might not have heard Gouseion before, but if you're lucky you'll be hearing his beats on a dancefloor near you very soon indeed...
