This two disc retrospective brings together one CD's worth of unmixed tracks compiled from the Minus label's estimable back catalogue and a further, as mixed by Troy Pierce. The first disc - a 'greatest hits' of sorts - opens up with Magda's '48 Hour Crack In Your Bass'. The track rattles along with an insanely queasy boinging bassline, while detailed percussive flutters pan across the stereo field. A couple of tracks on you'll find Locodice's 'Seeing Through Shadows', surely one of the more thumping, full-bodied productions in the label's recent history. Moving back to more reductive production aesthetics is Gaiser's 'Egress' whose minimal beat framework houses some subtle, atmospheric glitch designs. Jpls uses similar principles for 'green01 (skootboot remix)' which pavesd the way for the acerbic synths of Heartthrob's 'Baby Kate'. You'll also hear Marc Houle's evergreen 'Bay Of Figs' and Mathew Jonson's massive 'Decompression' before the disc is out. Onto the Troy Pierce mix CD, and you'll hear some of these same tracks recontextualised, threaded in amongst a slew of different selections, including several remixes of Heartthrob's 'Baby Kate' alongside cuts by Ambivalent, Tractile, Niederflur, Berg Nixon and I.A. Bericochea. An excellent - one-stop shop for some of Minus' finest moments, all brought together into a handy digital bundle. A fine package indeed.
