Touane's Marco Tonii moved to Berlin in 2005 and his since released a number of 12"s to no small level of success. He soon released his debut album, Awake, and some two years later we have this sophomore effort, which finds Tonni distancing himself further from the rigidity of his minimal techno background. Instead, Figura is a pursuit steeped in a host of electronica production styles. The upbeat instrumental electropop of 'Fruhstuck' ushers in the album's crisp, brightened production sound, which extends to the popping glitch percussion of 'She Let Some Light In', a kind of lounge-electronica hybrid, halfway through erupting into a kind of luxurious, languid digital jazz. More stripped down, yet with equally tight, crunchy production work is 'Autoerotica', a track dominated by some restrained yet expertly crafted beat modulations. A number of shorter, harder to pin down, interlude tracks crop up sporadically through the album, creating a sense of dynamism with their formless soundscaping, which nicely breaks up the denouement of the album. There's nothing especially radical about Figura, but there's no disputing that this is top notch home listening electronica. Very nice indeed.
