Limited re-press! One of the most forward thinking minds in dubstep, the honorable Steve Goodman a.k.a Kode 9 steps up for the equally excellent Soul Jazz imprint heralding the sooncome "Box Of Dub" compilation from the London based riddim powerhouse. 'Magnetic city' is probably Kode9's most technofied dancefloor effort to date, after covering digital steppers and sci-fi halfstep already this year with remixes for Junior Boys and Massive music, this track oozes with a dancefloor sensibility that is more accustomed to minimal techno/house and a less organic and more synthetic crowd, MDMA instead of THC if that makes sense. Utilising a palette of 808 cowbells and thick kickdrums with acidic licks and a sumptuous melodica drone pitched to perfection, there's no significant drop here in the usual dubstep sense, more a smooth linear tranisition keeping the dancefloor grooving rather than the usual bulds and drops, a far more refined and yet no less exciting dubstep experience. I'd almost forgot to mention, there's also a killer Digital Mystikz track on the flip, 'Wait'. The combined talents of Mala and Coki producing an entirely exclusive dub track. Coki driving the bass, Mala laying down some punishing drums and all floating in an exquisite blue atmosphere that could only come from a combined session. Soul Jazz are soooo on the money with this one it hurts - totally mint like.
