*Strictly Limited Copies!* At last, some new material from Amiina - the quartet made famous as the string section of choice for the likes of Efterklang, and most notably, Sigur Ros. Seoul marks an undoubted leap in terms of the group's sophistication - the music is still as charmingly direct and downright celestial as on their previous Aminaanima EP release, but there's a wealth of new instrumentation to be found on this new set of songs, including some exquisitely mournful bowed saw, guitar, synthesizer and even singing. The EP's title track eases us into this freshly augmented sound palette with a comparatively familiar Amiina concoction, combining willowy glockenspiel and dulcimer tones with the gentlest of percussion arrangements. Next up, 'Ugla' finds the quartet making a more marked departure, and while the music remains as otherworldly and supremely delicate as ever (childlike synthesizer melodies and softly plucked electric guitar arpeggios define the sound) - the Amiina girls even throw some beutuful vocals into the mix. It's the drum machine and lo-fi electronics of live favourite 'Ammaelis' that really break the form, however, the ever-fragile compositional touch is present but now bolstered by buzzing electronic bass and rhythmic pulses. A tantalising clutch of tracks that'll make you all the more impatient to get your hands on the impending full-length - highly recommended.
