Back in stock. Another zeitgesit bothering record from the Kompakt camp, The Field has, in the course of a couple of singles made with messenger guidance, established himself as album length property for the cologne maffia. Admittedly the jury's still out on whether a backwards rotating, overt 4 Tops sample doth an album promise, but no matter, "Sun and ice" works a treat in a club situation and here the Field has the good sense to keep the formula sound locked on rocksteady. "The deal" emphasises this stillness, practically a stasis at the root of Axel Willner's approach; repeating loops, altering by degrees, into a prototype of shoegaze ambient techno. Still, the results are most poignantly realised on "Good things end" - coming on like a would be chain reaction remix of enya, big with the trimmed beard and bean bag posse, no doubt.
