THE REDLANDS PALOMINO COMPANY
Take Me Home
CD
These London-based alt-country rockers do a cracking job of mocking-up the sound palette of classic Americana without feeling obliged to pretend they actually are Americans. Take Me Home strives for the spirit of early Wilco or even the Flying Burrito Brothers, as on ‘Burning It Down’ and She Is Yours’, both of which feature some commendably authentic lapsteel fills. Opener, ‘Wasted On You’ sounds like Grand Prix-Era Teenage Fanclub, kicking the album off with some seriously bright, hook-laden pop, a summery rush that extends to ‘Coastline’, which approximates the twin guitar riffing of The Byrds to great effect. The unashamedly more-is-more string arrangements of the title track steal the show however, with vocalist Hannah Eton-Wall’s implausibly sweet voice more than a match for the torrent of instrumental chaos around her.
