Grabbing the zeitgeist by the scruff of its neck, Pingipung's last compilation 'Plays The Piano' appeared at the zenith of the ivory revival - with treated compositions from the likes of Barbara Morgenstern & Robert Lippok, Hauschka, Lawrence and Thaddi. Shifting their gaze over to the gleaming medium of brass, the latest collection focuses squarely on the kind of instruments that soundtrack working-class period dramas set oop north... Featuring parping cuts from Mouse On Mars, Hey O Hansen, Lawrence, Springintgut, Le Rok and Mister Tingle, the assembled musicians use their brass in a multitude of styles - ranging from the lopsidedtronica of Jab Mica Och El, through to the skittering minimalism of Übertonmensch. Proving just how versatile some air through brass can be, Mouse On Mars force their horn through a digital mangle on the frenetic 'Yippie', Lawrence conjures up a glacial landscape of stripped beats and lazy tones, whilst Hey O Hansen sidles up with starburst atmospherics and a trickle of warped melodies.
