As the somewhat prescriptive title suggests, this is a compilation designed specifically to get you in that festive frame of mind. It starts out perfectly with Leadbelly's over-excited 'Christmas Is A-Coming', only for Calexico to take the mood down to a more contemplative level with 'Gift X-Change', which sets an eerily poignant tone that extends to similarly beautiful contributions from the likes of Okkervil River and Will Oldham's version of 'Christmastime In The Mountains' under his Palace Songs moniker. Far more rabble-rousing is Thee Headcoatees' 'Santa Claus': an obscenely lo-fi trashy pop tune that picks up the tempo nicely. Other highlights come from Jim White's less than merry 'Christmas Day', Low's magnificent 'Long Way Round The Sea' and Butthole Surfers' extremely silly drunken ramble, 'Good King Wenceslaus', which finishes off an entirely satisfying indie-rock themed Christmas compilation.
