Using their Black Strobe moniker to satisfy the more tarnished and seedy aspects of their personality, Ivan Smagghe and Arnaud Rebotini have seen their noir duo become a byword for classy remixes - with the likes of Depeche Mode, Bloc Party and Nitzer Ebb all coming under their inky scalpel. Released ahead of their forthcoming debut LP, 'Shining Bright Star' is here given the remix treatment by producer Paul Epworth (under his Phones appelation) - with a one sided limited 12" that features a fancy Black Strobe etching on the blank side. Nice. Sounding not unlike some lost 1980's underground synth-classic, Phones' interpretation balances the smooth electro wash with ruptured electro beats and languid vocals to create a piece that sticks to the brain like porridge in the microwave.
