Ooh err, if there's anything I'm a sucker for it's riff-heavy psychedelic rock goodness, and Pharaoh Overlord have that on tap by the sound of it. This is a timely re-issue of the band's first album and darn, if every there was a need for a bottle of liquor, a box of Camel and some rose-tinted spectacles it's now. The cover reads 'Hypno-Improv-stoner-rock from Finland' and who am I to disagree - each track reaches almost ten minutes and is chock full of deep plucked basses, swathes of analogue delay, tape compressed percussion and of course, those riffs. The band seem to have a mathematical formula for optimum riff construction as every one cuts deeper into your spine and tempts you toward a life of wine, women and heavy drugs. In fact I'm thinking of going out and scoring right now, getting myself a few hookers and throwing a television out of some hotel window. I feel the urge and '#1' is my soundtrack! Absolute crushing rock destruction, and did I mention it was Circle related? What more do you need, just buy it.
