SERGE GAINSBOURG - Histoire de Melody Nelson, Light In The Attic

This is one of those records that really defies a quick write-up - it's regarded as Serge Gainsbourg's definitive work, and is often cited as one of the very finest albums ever made. Telling a Lolita-esque tale of morally... dubious romance, Histoire Melody Nelson takes a format that deviates somewhat from a conventional concept album - it's short, clocking in at under twenty-eight minutes, and often returns to themes established earlier on in the work. In addition to the Jane Birkin duets, Gainsbourg is joined by another notable collaborator: Jean-Claude Vannier deserves a great deal of credit for the way this album turned out: he co-wrote much of the music alongside Gainsbourg and conceived the incredible orchestral and choral arrangements. One of the true all-time greats, this LP comes beautifully presented as a limited 180g vinyl edition, remastered from the original master tapes and comes in a gatefold tip-on style sleeve with full lyrics and a reproduction of a 1971 interview with Gainsbourg.
