*100 HANDPACKAGED COPIES ONLY!* It's par for the course that the background blurb supplied as release notes for any given album are inflated nonsense, but actually, the context of this music's conception and recording really do seem to be ingrained in its fabric: "The pieces that make up 'Count(r)ies'  were recorded and assembled in various places and stages during Valles' exodus from the big city to a small farming community in Eastern Ontario. They highlight the slower-pace, quietness, and peacefulness found in the vast countryside; while simultaneously amplify the tension, darkness, and loneliness found in unfamiliar places." You really do find yourself inferring remoteness, melancholy and isolation, with a tangible air of tension accumulating as the album goes on. Using only the lightest electronic treatments, Canadian composer/musician Damian Valles spins mostly organic instrumentals, skeletally constructed around piano or guitar melodies, knitting incredibly subtle, yet very immersive atmospheres around them. As a complete album, Count(r)ies has enough variety and compositional depth to really take you somewhere. Very lovely indeed.
