*100 HAND-PACKAGED COPIES ONLY!* French ambient entity Archers By The Sea is the latest contributor to the Under The Spire label's continued upwards trajectory, supplying an album's worth of dense, smudgy sound-sculpting and lo-fi atmospherics. First track 'Children Of The Sun' features a distant, dissolved sounding vocal and delay-looped guitar riffs, possibly betraying a Grouper influence. This enigmatic excursion into mantric pop is short-lived however, and after the song has run its seven-minute course we're onto more abstract material with 'I Am A Black Crow', which sounds like its been fabricated from fairly organic and spontaneous means - perhaps some sort of effects pedal setup rather than a purely laptop-spun genesis. This harmonious, watery composition establishes the tone of what's to come, and on the blistering euphoric loop shards of 'Night Gems' and the musty, crumbling echoes of 'Rivers Lead To The Oceans' you can expect to encounter much to be enjoyed. Finally, 'The Purple Trees' establishes a more processed sound that's not too far away from early Fennesz. Gorgeous.
