Back in stock! The second part of a trilogy of self-titled albums from the mysterious 'A Taste of Ra', rumoured to be the shadowy project of none other than Swedish alt country superstar and Will Oldham collaborator Nicolai Dunger. He doesn't seem to do much to cover up his distinctive vocal stylings, but the rest of the album is rather further removed from his more bombastic productions. In place of the wavering electric guitars and nod towards American bar-rooms we have windswept porches and jangling acoustics. In fact there's a lot to compare this album to the Fonal sponsored odd-world free-folk scene with its obtusely structured faux-pop and haunting recording techniques. With many of the tracks you can hear the room or space where the recording took place which gives the album a certain pleasantly peculiar quality setting it apart from many similar records. While the end result is occasionally too close to novelty at times, this album is another glorious oddity on the Hapna label, and definitely worth more than a brief look.
