Trunk records fans take note! This simply gorgeously packaged re-issue (part of a luxurious series of discs) takes some of the best soundtrack work of French musical/sexual icon Serge Gainsbourg and pulls it together into one easy to swallow compact disc. First off we have the full soundtrack to Pierre Koralnik's 1970 gangster film 'Cannabis', and then as an extra reason to buy we have Gainsbourg and Michel Colombier's soundtrack to Jacques Poitrenaud's 1968 film 'Ce Sacre Grand Pere'. The 'Cannabis' soundtrack is, as you can probably imagine, quite a jaunty romp, all twanging bouzouki, organs, breathy vocals and twisted guitar riffage which wouldn't sound out of place played at any self-respecting exotica night. 'Ce Sacre Grand Pere' however is a more orchestral affair, with haunting tracks such as 'L'adieu' in amongst Gainsbourg's more familiar loungy style on 'Champetre et Pop 1+2'. A varied and hugely enjoyable release this is something all avid soundtrack collectors should check without delay.
