Back in stock. A collection of the well-received 12”s from the Detroit Underground label, this jam packed compilation features appearances from Richard Devine, Modeselektor, Kero, Phon.O, Jimmy Edgar, and Funckarma among others. As you can imagine, the name of the game is strictly IDM – no holds barred chopped up electronica business, reminding us of the days where you didn’t get lynched by bespectacled Myspacers for mentioning the couplet ‘Drill and Bass’, and it all does it’s best to throw us right back into 1999 from the off. Ex-electronica starlet Richard Devine kicks things up in his trademark style with choppy rhythms before we’re launched into a retrograde electronic bleep-street workout from Detroit tweaker Kero. Luckily everyone’s new favourite duo Modeselektor quickly step in for a bit of polishing with a track I would like to say is a parody of classic electronica, but it probably isn’t. Elsewhere notable oddities come from Direkt Jive who shows us there’s life in old Squarepusher tracks yet on ‘Remind’ and Funckarma manage to get remixed by Kero but sound exactly the same as they always do. There are definitely some gems hidden away on this beautifully packaged compilation, and interestingly there's a very well hidden Shadetek track on the end (track 17 to be exact…) but there’s only 16 tracks on the cd, and the track only appears when you access it with a computer… how IDM is that? Ahh the good old days.
