Those of you who heard the last instalment in this epic series of releases will already know the quality to expect from John Zorn’s latest labour of love. Housed in a sparkling die-cut sleeve (one of the nicest we’ve seen) this is the latest selection of delectable songs from John Zorn’s critically acclaimed ‘Book of Angels’. This time the players in question are the Cracow Klezmer Band, and their impeccable musical skill takes us through Zorn’s matchless compositions with ease. There’s something darkly cinematic in Zorn’s re-imagining of traditional Jewish forms, using a heavy narrative that holds the tension from start to finish. Another great addition to the busy Tzadik catalogue, well worth a listen.
