FINALLY REPRESSED!!! Its been a while since we've heard from Martin Clark's Keysound Recordings, his previous offering alongside the man like Dusk submerged us into a twilight London headspace, filled with dreadman bass and crushing halfstepper rhythms. Blackdown's latest work of sonic fiction occupies a similar nether region, moving further down the timeline to a post-club atmosphere with effervescent Pole-like ideas of space and density. "The danger line' and 'Crackle Blues' hold their ground on the A-side, optimised for solitary bass sessions of the most absorbing kind. The B-side is where the good stuff is hiding though, 'lata' is surely Mr Clark's best track to date, an air conditioned female vocal emerges from sonorous sub-continental percussion and a glorious subbass drone for a deliciously sticky and squashed experience. The best is saved till last though, with the anonymous legend that is Burial dropping a moment of bona fide spine chilling magnificence, best saved for those midsummer sunrises and suchlike. Setting the rhythm something like a dubstep version of Diamond Ice's finest Miami bass constructions, metronomic hi-hats and the classic woodblock snare lay down irresistibly lush rhythmic permutations intertwined with a beautifully subtle application of bassline science and misty found sounds. A stunning piece of work and easily worth the price of admission ten times over, the Burial legend continues.....
