Now considered aural shorthand for anything that needs an epic overhaul, Sigur Ros have come a long way in the past few years - starting out as an Icelandic oddity before seamlessly graduating into the kind of stadium-felling proposition that has granted them keys to the BBC's music department. Following the absolute hammering of 'Hoppípolla' as backing on EVERY TV programme ever (ranging from Match Of The Day through to Planet Earth), the Ros have decided to release yet another slice of Takk's irresistible post-rock bombast - introducing 'Saeglopur' into the wild all by itself... Opening through the kind of low-key slow build that gets all senses on red-alert, Sigur Ros incrementally proffer a tender selection of keys 'n' vocals that could almost be a lost Kate Bush track; as a pitter-patter melody is polished to a perfect luster by the oddly malignant vocals. Seemingly happy to glide along in this beatific haze, you're just getting comfortable when the schematic is split down the middle by the kind of cold-water chords that feel like a coffee enema before the storm subsides to reveal all manner of orchestral nourishment. Possibly the purest dose of Sigur Ros that it's humanly healthy to consume, 'Saeglopur' is utterly unashamed in its aim; chiefly to raise every hair on your neck in salute to their sonic force. If you take your Ros on CD, then along with the three other tracks included for your listening pleasure ('Refur', 'O'Fridur' & 'Kafari') there's also a DVD to bathe the eyes, featuring videos for the title track as well as the fantastic OAP ASBO accompaniment to 'Hoppipolla'.
