DNTEL - Rock My Boat, Aim

Back in stock! When DNTEL aka Jimmy Tamborello released the seminal ‘Life is Full of Possibilities’ back in 2001 it made waves on the scene. He was utilising vocals, it sounded like… indie? Yes Tamborello had made an ‘indietronica’ album, but back then barely anyone else had even considered it. You can’t get a record deal these days unless you’ve got a guitar, so now amongst the crowds of youngsters with a laptop instead of a Vox AC30 is there still any room for Mr. Tamborello? Hell yeah, these two new tracks (the first fresh material since 2001!) show that he hasn’t lost it; the A side features Mia Doi Todd, who you might remember sang on Tamborello’s utterly incredible ‘Anyone Anywhere’ track. Her strange, sensual vocal parts layered over Tamborello’s subtle electronic blips, gurgles and squelches are a match made in heaven – hopefully we can expect some more collaborations on the upcoming full length. The flipside is a more experimental affair, taking reverberated vocals and analogue synth fiddling as the basis, and melting them into the DNTEL template. An all round fantastic 7” and what’s more it’s on wonderful Sunny Delight coloured vinyl. Ace.
