Deep joy - Prince Jazzbo's epic "Pepper rock" version is a great first port of call - versioning a timeless original Burning Spear "Rocking Time" - and from the rhythm on in, you should be helpless. Jazzbo of course was just the tip of a large Ja iceberg when it came to deejays, as soon as Coxsone clocked the attention folks like U-Roy and I-Roy were gathering for simply talking over existing records, ever the smart businessman, began as a matter of course versioning all his mainstream chart smashes with deejay versions and as we've documented elsewhere, many many dubs. This collection spans the early years from Alcapone, King Stitt, Far-I as King Cry Cry through to latterday dons like Lone Ranger, and sometime government gunman Jim Brown. Amazing rhythms, coining it lyrically - prime collection. Dare we say - essential?
