VITAMINSFORYOU - The Legend Of Bird's Hill, Intr-Version

Indie and electronica are like peas and carrots now are they not? What with Morr Music going into global stardom, the Postal Service being on the OC and the Junior Boys and Psapp taking up residence alongside the Arctic Monkeys at Domino HQ. Now it’s Montreal based experimental imprint Intr Version’s turn to give the whole indietronic thing a bit of a go with Bryce Kushnier’s Vitaminsforyou project. Coming across now and again like a carbon copy of Four Tet or Caribou and as a Junior Boys tribute at others, with slices of traditional Canadian microhouse working as interludes, this is hardly an original album, and at 19 tracks it’s not a short album either, but give it time and Bryce’s Ben Gibbardisms will melt your heart. There’s a homespun warmth and an honesty to his recordings and even if they do occasionally come across as trying a little too hard, it’s difficult not to fall for their sentiment. Emo-tronica maybe? Let’s hope so.
