Following on from their "look-at-who-we-know" Grizzly Bear LP, Efterklang's Rumraket label moves onto it's second release with Cacoy's 'Human Is Music' - a much clearer descendent of the Danish host's post-electronica-rock sound. Spawned from the heart of Japan's leftfield scene, Cacoy count members of Tenniscoats and Maher Shalal Hash Baz amongst their number; making the kind of wispy electronic music that demands a lazy comparison to cherry blossom. Originally released over three years ago in their native Japan, Cacoy have evidently been on the Oil of Olay - with 'Music Is Human' showing no sign of ageing. Opening through the mangled acoustica and casio-beats of 'Funeral March In March', Cacoy bring to mind some of Lali Puna's more soft-centered output, with 'Mural Of Music' and 'Piracle Pa' glancing similar territory through the precision digitalis and soapy soundscapes. Elsewhere, 'Yoko Majikick Ono' utilises a slide-rule of electronic sounds to coax the thrumming rhythm out of hiding, 'Thank You Africa' hides a lurching predilection beneath some pinktronica, whilst 'New North' suggests ownership of a Twin Peaks box-set amongst the Cacoy clan. Closing on the tender guitar of 'Cool Spring Minister', Cacoy see you out with a jaunty serving of border-line flamenco - a suitably oddball finish to a spectrum-straddling LP. Cacoy ahoy!
