Backing up P-Love (as if it needs it) my label of the year Bully drop what is possibly their best single stack of 7 inch waxdom yet! Firstly in case you don't know Norsala she is the cellist in Godspeed You Black Emperor. She and Sixtoo laid down drums and cello, scrap that - make it drums, sampler, synth, vocals, cello, bass, guitar, dulcimer sh*t - a full on hip hop post rock soundclash in Sixtoo's Montreal studio setup. 'Homages' is a four part extended composition/jam, part one is a dramatic darkened ambience soundtrack, with lingering guitar tones, simmering percussion, evil bass buzzing and that shaded atmosphere! Part 2 drops the drums rolling in a gradually freefalling propulsive fashion over Norsola's cello first softly plucked moving onto broken hearted bowing, heavy music, deep emotion. The third part kicks it off, the drums heavier still, tight as anything and the cello ripped into so much I'm sure the bow was in pieces at the end. The final part drops into a calming mantra with freeform poetics from Sixtoo, incredible music. Bully's artwork hits new levels here as well, a crazy printed reproduction of original hand stitched artwork, glued on photoprints, poor Mr Bully must have lost several weekends putting these together. Utterly essential and oh so limited!
