Not the sort of thing that we'll usually list here...but but but!! You'll no-doubt already have read something or other about Fear of Music, how they won the most recent and highly coveted 'Best Unsigned Band' prize during In The City and how they did so despite the average age of the band members being slightly under 16 years old. With a sound that mixes fraught indie-rock, scuzzed backing and cracked pepper vocals, Fear Of Music's debut EP is an adrenaline-propelled musical document that builds gleaming aural high-rises from binary beats and rampaging fleets of guitars. Fear Of Music are a balls-to-the-wall rock band who make refractory laced pop music, filtered through a case of A-Grade bourbon. Immediately both familiar and fresh, album opener 'A Strange Kind Of Terror' takes the stadium pomp of Muse and vocal style of The Pixies (most apparent on 'Skin & Bones'), then unleashes it on a whole raft of chugging riffs and hair-in-the-wind solos that'll have you po-going for joy. Similarly, 'Hey Princess' massages its shades of Placebo (don't let that put you off) into a song so catchy and accomplished that the inevitable flogging it will receive on radio playlists is unlikely to diminish it's iridescent shine, whilst 'The Waltz' takes elements similar to The Mars Volta then overlays them with a beguiling and grandstanding show tune result. Get this before the majors pounce. What are we talking about.....they already have.
