Returning to the Schoolmap imprint for a follow up to his Stunt EP, Giuseppe Ielasi employs the same sound sources, working with turntables and a selection of vinyl records. You might expect an artist so closely associated with the microsound genre as Ielasi to take a fairly abstract approach to turntablism, and although you might draw parallels with Otomo Yoshihide and the like, there's a strictly organised rhythmic appeal to this music that comes closer to hip hop than the avant-garde for much of the time. The actual sound palette remains adventurous (for example, 'Part 3' would seem to derive its melodic foundations from old, scratchy Japanese string instrument recordings), but in terms of the tuneful, tightly organised rhythms you might be listening to an on-form Four Tet at times. Great stuff from Ielasi, showing us another string to his already ample bow.
