Carlos Nino is the multi instrumentalist beat head behind the Ammoncontact, Build An Ark and Hu Vibrational projects besides a plethora of other psychedelic soul infused projects. From his base in LA Carlos pretty much oozes sounds, whether in collaboration with his huge extended network of fellow minded makers, freakers and players or solo, the word prolific is reserved for people like him. 'High With A Little Help From' is a sumptuous trip into his cosmic mindscape, ranging from perfectly executed live field recordings of an Alice Coltrane tritbute performed by the Universal Consciousness Orchestra to experimental space jams on '9 Moons Full', to sublimely gentle folk guitars on 'With Azul' or acceptably noodly Moog jams on 'Aquarius'. The field recordings of concert performances are a particular highlight of the album, detailing intimate recordings of his fellow LA players with an undoubted live feel. They position the listener in the front row of an outdoor concert so beautifully captured you can almost feel the sun on your skin and the vibrations of the band washing your soul, it's a rather lovely experience. If you've swooned at the feet of any of his many projects for Soul Jazz, Ninja Tune or Kindred Spirits this is an absolute must.
