Possibly only matched by the Arcade Fire in the level of pre-release hype for their debut album ('Ta Det Lugnt'), Dungen have been raking in the platitudes and been described as "the best band in the world" by NME (although they say that weekly...never let them forget Menswear), and "mind-blowing" by the esteemed Pitchfork. Apart from that, this album fast became one of the most sought-after and biggest selling albums on the underground scene in the States last year and has been so successful in inducing fits of excitement that the buzz has truly spread far and wide, with even this week's excellent Melodic compilation featuring a track from the Scandinavian psych-rockers. So is 'Ta Det Lungt' any cop? Well yes, particularly if you're into psych readings of Bryds-esque melodies lashed together by of strings and Keith Moon drums. Kicking things off with a flurry of Gene Krupa mayhem, main man Gustav Ejstes launches into a selection-box of riffs on 'Panda'; a song that puts a Swedish spin onto the sound minted by dEUS and Gorky's Zygotic Mynki. All sang in their native tongue, 'To Det Lugnt' references rock-school Radiohead on 'Gjort Bort Sig', gives an electro-smear to the 'Pet Sounds'-riddled 'Festival' and pumps 'Du E For Fin For Mig' to bursting point with strings a-go-go. Adrenaline fresh goodness, highly recommended!
