The second installment in Warp's series of super scarce Flying Lotus twelves is upon us, bursting at the seams with remixed goodness from some of the world's finest beat jiggers, Martyn, Ras G, Nosaj Thing, Samiyam, Mike Slott and Soundmurderer. Martyn returns the favour after Flylo's stonking remix of his 'Vancouver' track with a soulful 2-Step version of 'Roberta Flack' featuring those brilliant key progressions that made his mix of TRG's 'Broken Heart' such a winner. Ras G's version of 'Sleeping Dinosaur' flips the track into a skewed and psychedelic soundsystem bumper and Nosaj Thing submerges 'Camel' in a bath of fuzzy downbeat suds for a superbly steamy electronica version. The Samiyam version of 'Grapesicles' is a perfectly executed exercise in the slackest slouch-funk beats with exceptionally wet but crunchy snares and blue jazzed stabs very much in that West Coast style he shares with Flylo, but it's the final two mixes from Mike Slott and Soundmurderer that have seriously floated our boats this morning. Mike Slott's version is unusually well tamed but manages to bring a whole other angle on 'Roberta Flack' with an immense breakdown allowing the synthlines to slowly copulate and form a rainbow of psyched colours in awesome style, and the first new production from Soundmurderer in what feels like years is just killer, switching up from a halftempo squeeze into a full on blooodclaat tech step jungle rinseout to the final strokes. These are criminally limited too so if you're after one, get in yesterday!
