Compiling both Boom Bip remix EP's "From Left To Right" and "Morning & a day", Corymb features originals, remixes by Lali Puna, Mogwai, Four Tet, Boards of Canada, Venetian Snares and Clouddead,, as well as bonus tracks and a couple of Peel Session recordings. From the newer tracks on offer the selection of remixes is convincing, if a little obvious, but the tracks deliver in spades. Mogwai's remix for "The Use Of Unacceptable Colors in Nature" is sublime, stripping the cinematic spaciousness of the original into a sudued sliver of dusted hi hats and elongated basslines, slinky, minimal, inspired post rock meets electronica. Four Tet gives "Third Stream" a complete overhaul, mauling the beats into the sound of a typewriter being bashed by an apes hand, a delicious double bassline arriving to deploy maximum smokey pressure, brilliant stuff. "Awaiting an accident" is reconstructed by Lali Puna, once more heading toward a melancholy bout of introspection in the beautiful surroundings of refined basslines and guitar driven structures, an instrumental, cinematic appendix to their recent album "Faking The Books". For the Boards of Canada, Venetian Snares and Clouddead remixes see the review for the "From Left To Right 12", which just leaves the 4 extra tracks which do their thing in fine style. Great value, recommended.
