Shaw Brothers fans rejoice: here's a collection of unreleased soundtracks from the De Wolfe Music Library, one of the largest and most renowned film music resources in the world. While Finders Keepers and Trunk Records releases always exude a sense of warmth and specificity thanks to the manner by which their compilers present and engage with the subject matter, Kung Fu Super Sounds is perhaps a little more tainted by matter-of-fact. Once you really get your teeth into the record you'll soon find that despite appearances and the air of novelty surrounding this release there's much to get excited about within the music. Choose just about any selection here, from the discordant drama of 'Grotte Sous-Marine' from 1978's Shaolin Handlock to 'Zenith from 1982's Hex After Hex' these are inventive, exciting scores that steer well clear of anything that might be regarded as kitsch. In addition to the orchestral scores making up the majority of the tracks here, you're treated to electronic stings and segue tracks, ranging from beat-driven cuts that'd get Crystal Castles excited to more abstract vintage drones like 1982's /Moog Shot 25' from Buddah's Palm.
