Back in stock. Lush West coast soul pop from the sunny minstrel Nobody for Ubiquity with the Dive EP, but what y'all need to be checking is the killer Flylo remix nestled on the B-side. Nobody's Blankblue project is a collaboration with colleague Niki Randa from the indie record store they both work at in Long Beach, CA. The project is based on the idea of an Armageddon initiated by a massive earthquake off the wets coast of USA set sometime in the future, and the only survivors are able to live and breathe in poisoned waters, to paraphrase an incredibly convoluted and surreal tale from the mind of Nobody's Elvin Estela. The music itself is a swirling current of downbeat west coast hiphop psychedelia in the fine tradition of Nobody's previous outings and is definitely worth a check for the flower power leftovers out there. For all the here-and-now crew, you have to check the amazing Flying Lotus remix, as the beat machine manages to morph Nobody's lush composition into dense layers of unravelled breaks and electrnic gurgles sounding uncannily like seagulls or possibly psychotropic induced fish farts, i'm not sure which. The most useful track here is probably the instrumental Flylo version, which drops Randa's slightly cloying vocals and allows the full majesty of this special beat to really take form.
