Latest unimpeachable offering from the Blood & Fire family, featuring the bionic talents of a stalwart guest on the globe-trotting B&F Sound System, Ranking Joe. Based on Joe's 1980 'Round The World' set, the Dennis Brown productions and Black Uhuru tracks with Sly & Robbie capture one of the formative longplayers of the modern dancehall scene. Ranking Joe's style reflects years under the sway of the greats of the reggae deejay era: U-Roy, I-Roy, Dennis Alcapone, and Scotty, making it to wax as 'Little Joe' for Coxsone, Bunny Lee, Pete Weston, Enos Macleod and crucially 'Prince' Tony Robinson, who renamed Joe as Ranking. Almost more significant are his thirty years of microphone experience for sounds like El-Paso Hi-Fi, Sure Shot, with Dillinger for Smith The Weapon, Ray Symbolic, and in tandem from this point with his long-term operator Jah Screw, finally onto the epic Stur-Gav Hi-Fi sound of U-Roy. It was Joe who created 'Bong Diddley' style, tongue-twisting, fast-rapping, and from as early as 1977 was shaping what has become known as classic rubbadub sound, leading to these classic collaborations with Dennis Emmanual Brown. Cut in two hours - 'straight cut, bam bam' - mixed by King Tubbys and Scientist, fifteen tunes to savour - killer and still sounding years ahead of its time, fresher than if they were recorded yesterday. A must.
