VARIOUS - ATP 3.0 Autechre Curated, ATP

For the double vinyl release of this Autechre-curated collection of tracks we’re in for one seriously special treat. Not only are all the tracks exclusive, but, well the content here is in parts nothing short of devastating, just look at the line-up! Exclusive tracks from : Autechre, Anthony Shakir, Push Button Objects, Baby Ford, Disjecta, Stasis, Jim Orourke and much more. Detroit ambassador extrodinaire (and surely one of the most underrated and profoundly original artists making music today) Anthony ‘Shake’ Shakir unleashes a string-led breakbeat tribute of the highest proportions, a fat-ass break is joined by sub low-end pumping an ace bassline out and backed by Motor City strings. It’s almost a 4 Hero ruff remix of Detroit, a brilliant slice of work from Shake. Next up, a real surprise, Push Button Objects setting aside the b-boy documentation for a moment and finds it in him to deliver one of the most heartbroken and heartwarming slices of cinematic introspection we’ve heard in a while. Strings, choirs, tabla’s, fans of Boom Bip’s ‘Seed To Sun’ album will love this, sublime. Now to a track I’ve been anticipating since I heard he was booked for ATP and this release, Steve Pickton aka Stasis, delivers a track that adds to the grandeur of his mighty back catalogue, ‘Artifax’ is CLASSIC Stasis, 303 lines, 808 percussion and layers of strings lead to a mellow but infinitely deep few minutes of pleasure, recalling the days of classic UK techno and the start of the misnamed IDM genre. Along with Likemind and B12, Stasis helped forge a new sound for the UK, and one that is increasingly harked back to these days, this track holds to the blueprint they developed back in the early days, reverential to say the least. Autechre’s own contribution is a massive cut-up floor affair, spongy acid lines and crisp beats join with their unique knack of adding atmosphere to anything they touch, strung out melodies flicker in the background while their complex percussive lines shadow the beats, a deep and old school excursion for Rob and Sean and a belter of an Autechre track, pure class. Side C heads of with Mark Broom dropping a straight up electro-styled number, a heavy bass line drops with dark strings to create a Detroit-esque groove and a return to the sound of his Angie is A Shoplifter LP, simple fat and killer. Likewise for his ex stable mate at Ifach Records, Baby Ford who drops a minimal bass led tech number, subtle melodies and vocals disturbing the stillness of the beats but not the groove and add to the overall head nodding appeal. Flawless selection, compilations rarely necessitate themselves for purchase, but in this instance....buy!
