Pekka Airaksinen is perhaps best known for his 1970 LP 'Shh !' as Sperm which is regarded as a "priceless avant-garde artefact" by the likes of Keith Fullerton Whitman, but his solo follow-up 'One Point Music' should be held in similarly high regard by followers of Finnish, or indeed, any form of '70s psych experimentalism. Operating through the '60s and early '70s, Pekka was obviously informed and inspired by the Parisian and Cologne schools of concrete and avant-garde composition which preceded his work, building on concepts hatched by Pierre Schaeffer, John Cage, Yannis Xenakis, and Terry Riley, but with a sense of detached, individual, and almost alien expression which it could be said is unique to the Finnish character and can be heard today in the music of Uton, Mika Vainio, Es, Circle and many more. The first side breaks down to three main parts, roving across rolling, repetitive rhythms and shut-eyed guitar strokes thru patches of marshy, primitive dissonance to a stunning conclusion of icy, electro-acoustically treated strings composed in 1968 and quite possibly the main reason you need to hear this record. The other side is the awesomely blasted 'Music For Sisyfos', also composed in 1968. It was originally composed for a dramatic production but heard alone it's a marvel of spiked, slow and untethered minimalist experimentalism evoking wide blue landscapes and delirious states through a mixture of Syd Barrett-esque guitar meditations and Vainio-esque electronic control. If you got a good haul of psilocybic edibles in recently, we'd strongly recommend cracking them out and checking this.

A stunning tapestry of field recordings from the master, Chris Watson, with his fourth album appearance on Touch, and his first since 2003's acclaimed Weather Report. Originally aired in a BBC Radio 4 broadcast last year, the sounds that constitute El Tren Fantasma (The Ghost Train) replicate the cross-country, coast to coast, Pacific to Atlantic FNM train route from Los Mochis to Veracruz. This line, a high watermark of Mexican engineering, no longer exists as a passenger route, but Watson beautifully recreates and evokes it using archive recordings. Watson spent a month on board the train with some of the last passengers to travel the route, when he was working as a sound recordist on the BBC TV series Great Railway Journeys. Watson fans will know what to expect: an aural adventure of great beauty, poignancy, humour and vivacity.

**RE-PRESS. Includes free download code redeemable from the label** "A balm for troubled minds", "Unparalleled", and "Poised to become something of a sensation", are all phrases used to describe the unmistakably beautiful music of Nils Frahm. We're used to hearing Nils tickling the ivories but for 'Juno' he was encouraged by close friend and label mentor Peter Broderick to sketch something for the titular instrument. The result is two utterly sublime pieces transposing the skills of Nils onto an instrument he rarely uses, but evidently should do more often. There's an almost Aphexian melancholy to both sides, which is about the highest compliment we could imagine, and also reminisces of BJ Nilsen and Stilluppsteypa's 'Space Finale' trimmed to fit the format, but ultimately there's a subtlety of character and articulation which places it quite firmly at the forefront of Frahm's personal cabinet. Mournfully lush music, highly recommended to fans of Roedelius, AFX, Debussy.

Since Emeralds became public property some time last year, Mark McGuire and John Elliott have unleashed a hefty number of solo and extra-curricular records, but the band's third member, Steve Hauschildt, has remained pretty quiet. Now he breaks the silence with this lovely 12-track collection, an epic synthesizer suite (what else??) that pays tribute to Greek myth and French artist Charles Meynier. It scales some heights of almost obscene beauty - 'Blue Marlin' and 'Peroxide' in particular will have you levitating - and while its arpeggiated post-kosmische tropes are largely a familiar bag, there's an honesty and acuity to Hauschildt's vision which makes T&G a fresh and hugely fulfilling listen. Listen out especially for 'Overnight Venusian' - a pulsing urban synth noir that conjures Vangelis and early C2 before dissolving into a delicious coda of astral ambience.

Magik Marker Elisa Ambrogio meets Six Organs Of Admittance aka Ben Chasny in this sumptuous collaboration. They incubated and gestated the 200 Years album over a period of eleven months inside a former toolshed in Seattle, syncing their deft fingerpicking and shimmering amp hum sculptures to Elisa's comforting vocals, with subtle layers of harmonium, organs and chamberlin adding a chiffon depth depth.
