Squarepusher's 'Solo Electric Bass' was recorded live at Cité de la Musique in September 2007, as part of the Jazz a la Vilette 2007 festival. The performance consists of the virtuoso player on stage with just his trusty bass and a small amp, running through his spellbinding repetoire of finger and fretwork. The show opens with a delicately baroque introduction, interspersed with shocking chops before developing into something far more complex, s... Squarepusher and Warp follow up the finger melting jazz-fusion noodling of his 'Just A Souvenir' set with a brilliant mini album of floor dedicated cuts making a return to the breaks mentallism of yesteryear. Touching on a range of blatant influences from '92 breakbeat 'ardcore to darkside junglist mayhem and dousing them in electric jazz fretwork this is a return to the Squarepusher sound which captivated so many heads between 1997's 'Hard Norma... A cursory listen through Just A Souvenir is likely to prompt the phrase 'jazz fusion' to pop into your head. That's not necessarily an especially new sensation whilst listening to a Squarepusher record, it's just that this album has a more overtly organic, live band feel to it than most of Tom Jenkinson's work. The incredible programming remains present, but there's a more composed feel to much of this, with tracks like 'The Coathanger' and 'Star... READ MORE ABOUT: SQUAREPUSHER, Just A Souvenir, Warp ![]()

What with the Jenkinson clan now harboring another beat mangler amongst their ranks (Andy of Ceephax Acid Crew fame...), it seems that Squarepusher (aka Tom Jenkinson) has deemed the time right to reignite his love of crazy-leg rhythms and pickled electronics - with 'Hello Everything' a breathless collision of styles and influences. Picking elements from all his past work, 'Hello Everything' can be viewed as Squarepusher doing what Squarepusher ... READ MORE ABOUT: SQUAREPUSHER, Hello Everything, Warp ![]()
Go Plastic sees Mr Jenkinson unbuttoning his shirt and pimpin' it with a little bit of the funk, a little bit of fusion and a large obliterating dose of pure breakbeat cut-up business! Following the deep and free excursions of Music is a Rotted One Note and Buddakahn Mindphone, this LP finds a return to the junglist mayhem that solidified Squarepusher's allure with the release of his debut LP for Rephlex almost 5 years ago. Kicking off with the ... READ MORE ABOUT: SQUAREPUSHER, Go Plastic, Warp ![]()
Ultravisitor is the brand new album from Jenkinson Snr, his 5th full length emission and possibly his best to date - even with the scary 80 min running length. I must admit to not feeling the last album that much, a tad too experimental and missing that undefined 'X' factor that Squarepusher releases posess so vividly from time to time. This album changes all that. From its initial tumble into splattered breaks and intricate arrangements on the o... READ MORE ABOUT: SQUAREPUSHER, Ultravisitor, Warp ![]()

Classic album - possibly Tom Jenkinson's best - finally available again.
Be it a bootleg, a mashup or god knows what – this limited 4-tracker pits our man Tom Jenkinson versus 4 carefully selected foes. The ones you’ll all be clamouring to grab this twelve for are the mashed up mac-talk edits of Cylob’s “Rewind” decimated to f*ck by a Squarepusher special, and Amon Tobin’s fortified breaks given a jab of dark adrenaline in fine mental style. Unlikely this one will hang around for long – get busy!
With the benefit of hindsight we can perhaps say that Squarepusher's output seems to work at it's best when it's given a sharp dose of adrenaline and allowed to jack. His ambitious jazz tinkerings and extended percussive noodles are interesting enough, but give us some Squarepusher acid mangling and we're talking something else - the reason we liked him in the first place. "Venus No.17" is just the ticket in that respect, featuring the title trac... READ MORE ABOUT: SQUAREPUSHER, Venus No. 17, Warp ![]()
Talk about returning to the scene with a bang! To those of you who have yet to hear 'My Red Hot Car', be warned.....you will hear this churned out on radio, clubs, mobile discos and TV adverts for the next millenium or so. Yes mate, this is Squarepusher's take on Aphex's Windowlicker. A tune so large that the neck is going out low-riding with the homies and a bud at the next available opportunity with a dodgy tape copy in our 40k incar soundsyste... Primetime Sqaurepusher back from 1997 and before his output looked at more textured, experimental terrain. "Vic Acid" was the perfect continuation of the onslaught begun with the blinding "Feed Me Weird Things" set for Rephlex, the opening "Hard and Normal" mix of the title track giving it some pure unadulterated drill n bass acid mayhem of the Squarepusher variety already familiar to a growing legion of fans. For some stripped acid action slippi... READ MORE ABOUT: SQUAREPUSHER, Vic Acid, Warp ![]()
Clocking in at just under half an hour, “Big Loada” is really more of a mini-album than an EP, containing 7 tracks for your listening pleasure. “Full Rinse” gives it some dancehall fuelled breakbeat mentallism, aided by a certain MC Twin Tub, while “Come On My Selector” distinguishes itself in posession of another classic Chris Cunningham video. Large.

More largeness from the hyperactive Mr Jenkinson, and this time we're treated to full-on acid break jazz fusion!! Gone are the free-jazz experimentations and BassBending strumming, and in are pure boddy-popping, squelchy beats and quirky stabs. Ace.
