Ed and Andy follow up last years essential 'Trainer' retrospective with yet another inimitable collection of electronica workouts. 'Eyen' is up first with the kind of heartmelting guitar melodies and uber-crisp beats that has defined Plaid's recent output. The rave pressure is then brought fully on with the firin' 'Assault on Precinct Zero' which, to my mind at least, is one of the weakest tracks on offer here. From here on, however, it's pretty ... Long time Warpers Ed and Andy return with a cauldron full of sonic shenanigens for their latest long player for Warp : 'Spokes'. Running eleven tracks wide and schitzing across the IDM spectrum, the album delivers some diverse new work, highlighted by the opener 'Even Spring'. The track heads off with an ethereal vocal and music box melody that floats and shimmers across the speakers, weaving a rich if somewhat playful tapestry of sounds, only t... "Trainer" is a compilation of Plaid’s oldest and rarest material. Most tracks were released as limited 12’s under a multiplex of aliases and alter egos – from Balil to Atypic, while they were still in Black Dog. Rarest of them all was the ultra scarce "Mbuki Mvuki", Plaid’s semi legendary debut album which has been known to change hands for serious amounts of cashmoney. To the frustration of trainspoters and the delight of the rest of us, these ... READ MORE ABOUT: PLAID, Trainer, Warp ![]()
The first installment compiling Plaid's remixes harbours many gems from the prolific work of Ed and Andy. They have produced a deluge of material over the last decade, their unique melodic take on electronic music placing them high up in the IDM echelons, taking in remixes of such luminaries as Grandmaster Flash, Nicolette, Bjork and Photek to name but a few. The Bjork remix opens the fray, 'All is Full of Love' is a seminal Bjork track and is gi... READ MORE ABOUT: PLAID, Parts in the Post - Part 1, Peacefrog ![]()
And straight on to the second installment of the long time Warpsters Plaid remix compilation, this latter half containing yet more early gems, from the rare and superb remix of Unkle's 'Coffeehouse Conversation', to the pre-garage broken beat mix of Nicolette's 'Wholesome' which predates a lot of the broken beat tackle of today. Flip the first 12" to discover their remix of Goldfrapp's 'Utopia' and Funki Porcini's 'King Ashabanapal' which are bot... READ MORE ABOUT: PLAID, Parts in the Post - Part 2, Peacefrog ![]()
Excellent CD compilation bringing together all 20 of the Plaid remixes that are strewn across the vinyl two-parter released this week. Ed and Andy have produced a deluge of material over the last decade, taking in remixes of such luminaries as Grandmaster Flash, Nicolette, Bjork and Photek to name but a few. The Bjork remix opens the fray, 'All is Full of Love' is a seminal Bjork moment, here given an epic reworking that’s heavy on the sparkling ... Back again, Plaid are on a roll and keep the flow of work coming at a good rate, 4 new tracks to keep you busy with until the next album lands sometime....
P-Brane finds Plaid on somewhat new terrain, marginally less playful and spacious, the opening ‘Coat’ keeping the synths to a restrained whisper while the seriously squashed percussion gives a hip-hop paced schematic-esque layering of DSP’s and intricacies that have undoubtedly been inspired b...
