Hardcore Transmat geeks of course might be up in arms about this twelve, but the partial salvation comes on the neatly turned out shapethrowing panorama bar tribute "Berghain". Opt for this side if in a tight corner, simply grin and bear the gloss and sheen of its all gone pete tong directed ibizan headache that is "Winter". Massive of course, but what a pity - one is left mulling what might have been, be certain Groove La Chord this is not.

Transmat's legendary Aril Brikha has released more material in the last twelve months then he had during the previous decade - the recent flurry of releases for the likes of the Poker Flat and Kompakt labels whetting the appetites of a dedicated audience and attaining the Swede a new following. "Ex Machina" is Aril's long awaited full-length debut for the Peacefrog label and across its 11 tracks it fuels the same Maximal, quasi-trance driven emot... The second in this week's limited edition double-sided assault from Aril Brikha on Peacefrog - with the sleeve once again beautifully designed by Richard Robinson and photographed by Jim Green printed on thick, laquered card stock. "For Mother" on the a-side is hardly what you'd call a torch song, instead tweaking the synths into another tempered bout of euphoria - it's a really thin line between this sort of thing and out and out tracnce, which ... Talk of Aril Brikha signing to Peacefrog has been going on for some years now so this set of twelves hasn't exactly been unexpected - but still, it's taken so long to come to fruition that we could hardly believe it when these two beautiful EP's landed earlier today. Firstly - the artwork is just sublime, Jim Green's distinctive photography printed on laquered card stock and standing out from everything else in the box -the mark of a real good sl... After an extended period of innactivity the legendary Aril Brikha seems to be back in his studio, with a recent twelve for Kompakt and a long-rumoured series of releases for Peacefrog just around the corner - and this, a brand new twelve for Poker Flat. Much has changed with Brikha's production since the heady days of his Transmat/Fragile productions, in fact these cuts sound like they could have been tailor-made for Poker Flat with their upfront... Aril Brikha is a 24 year old producer from Stockholm who initially discovered electronic music listening to the likes of Depeche Mode, Front 242 and Jean Michel Jarre before discovering the more futuristic sounds of people like Robert Hood and Underground Resistance. Before he knew it Derrick May released the seminal “The Art Of Vengeance EP” featuring the stunning “Groove La Chord” on his Fragile record label, and was playing it all around the w... The debut LP from Aril Brikha released on Transmat in 2001, containing 2 mixes of the classic ‘Groove La Chord’ and also the ace title track, plus 5 more cuts of Aril’s up to date Detroit sound. ‘Groove La Chord’ is now a tech house classic, using simple filtered chords over a heavy 4/4 and fading strings that create ace breakdowns, it’s a good track that shows Aril’s skill in creating deep dance music. The title track is another example of Aril’... READ MORE ABOUT: ARIL BRIKHA, Deeparture In Time, Transmat ![]()
Aril’s second 12” on Transmat, both tracks are exclusive to this release. Fat chunky chords are the main instrument on ‘On and On’ with ace filters sweeping across the beat, a heavy 4/4 with minimal percussion leaves room for the chords to breathe and the groove is just classic, once you hear it you never forget, very similar in style to ‘Groove La Chord’ though a little cleaner, brilliant stuff. ‘Headhunter’ is the b-side, and its almost broken ... The first appearance of Aril Brikha gets a timely re-release, and its still probably his best work ever, ‘Groove La Chord’ is one of those grooves which makes techno what it is, simple, tough, and extremely danceable, with a dash of soul thrown into the mix. Aril starts the cut with the groove that plays throughout the track, but its kept simple by the beat which makes an absolutely solid groove with the synths, with lots of modulation and tweak...
