Back in stock! With the label's hiatus well and truly over, Type Records follows up Peter Broderick's amazing 'Float' with a brand new album of midnight Shoegazer classics from Portland's Liz Harris - and it really is one of the most special albums you'll hear this year. While the filtered, tape-fuelled obfuscation of her signature sound remains, Dragging A Dead Deer Up A Hill is far more resonant up front about the songs at the heart of her work... 'Way Their Crept' was originally released back in 2005 but the folks at Type Records have managed to re-release it on vinyl and mp3 and it's high time. Although since the album's release there has certainly been a lot of interest generated in Liz Harris's Grouper project, we've always felt that more people needed to get hold of this album. Maybe that's down to the construction of the tracks - deceptive in their simplicity, on the first play you a... READ MORE ABOUT: GROUPER, Way Their Crept, Type ![]()

One of the releases we get asked about most often and an absolute treasure for anyone lucky enough to already own a copy. "Cover The Windows And The Walls" was Grouper's first vinyl-only release back in 2007 and fetches tidy wedges of cash on the second hand market, particularly over the last 12 months when Grouper's status has sky-rocketed. We've just never been able to contain our undying love for Liz Harris and over the last couple of years sh... Over the course of a mere handful of albums and CD-Rs Liz Harris has been slowly emerging from the shadows, incrementally stripping away the dense layers of dust and vapour that coat her productions. Of late, Harris seems to have been gradually revealing the sounds that make up her uniquely murky music, even going so far as to unveil something approaching shoegaze on her recent "Cover The Windows And The Walls" LP (an album whose obscured guitar ... EXTREMELY LIMITED COPIES!!! I've never been able to contain my undying love for Liz Harris's Grouper project. In merely three albums (this vinyl-only beauty being the third) she has shot to the top of my favourite artists list, and 'Cover the Windows and the Walls' is perhaps her most accessible to date. A couple of weeks ago I was chatting with someone about the wonders of Grouper and he was convinced that the records owed a lot to the Thames va... I first discovered Liz Harris (aka Grouper) last year on the release of her frankly heart-stopping debut album 'Way Their Crept'. It's unusual that an artist will appear out of the blue like that, with little hype or chatter from the music scene but there she was with a record which has stayed at the top of my listening pile ever since. Her concept was defiantly simple, spacey compositions based around degraded echoes and feedback with the main s... READ MORE ABOUT: GROUPER, Wide, Free Porcupine Society ![]()
Liz Harris has managed to forge a record from the simplest of concepts : her vocals, a guitar, what sounds like a keyboard and ancient tape delays through which everything is filtered. The outcome is simply a marvel to behold, and 'Way Their Crept' is without a doubt the finest album of its kind (I'm trying to refrain from using the word 'ambient' for obvious reasons) in quite some time. Compared to everyone from William Basinski to Arvo Part, wh... READ MORE ABOUT: GROUPER, Way Their Crept, Free Porcupine Society ![]()
